Hair Transplants cause the most scalp scars
Scars on the scalp are usually caused by injury or surgery, the ones we see the most are hair transplant scars. Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) is the type of hair transplant that causes scarring to appear in a strip across the donor area of the scalp (usually the back or side of the head). Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is where multiple small circular incisions are made across the scalp’s donor area, leaving multiple small circular scars.
Once healed, using scalp micropigmentation, we can implant pigment in and around the scarred area; this then camouflages the scar filled with replicated hair follicles and makes it practically unnoticeable amongst the natural follicles.
3 common questions
Understandably we get a lot of questions about Scalp Micropigmentation so let us answer the 3 most common ones that we encounter.
Scalp Micropigmentation is a non-surgical process that is specifically customized to each individual hair loss need. SMP is a hair tattoo that strategically places dotted pigment onto your scalp creating the illusion of hair follicles. This is the only service that guarantees results.
This depends on your hair loss progression. Generally the greater the amount of hair loss, the higher the quoted price. The price for SMP is between $1500-$2500.
This is much more cost effective than other solutions such as hair transplants, medications, and hair systems including weaves, wigs, and braids for women.
Have you heard the saying ‘slow and steady wins the race’? The same goes for SMP. This is a multi-session process. Most will need 4 sessions. Each session can take between 2-4 hours depending on the amount of hair loss.
After the completion of your service, you can expect the color to last for many years. Over time, the pigment will gradually fade and a touch up will be required.
